A brief history of Porsche
Ferdinand Porsche (what a name!) was the founder of the less-impressively named motor company “Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmBH” in 1931. Their first assignment? To create a seamless blend of curvaceous design and automotive perfection? Sadly not…
They were, in fact, tasked with producing “the People’s car,” or rather, what became the humble old VW Beetle for the German war effort…but we won’t linger in this territory for too long.
After the war, Porsche’s son began an enterprise of his own and started work on the first Porsche. Having some success in motor racing with the 550 Spyder, the company launched the Porsche 911 in 1964. This featured the classic, six-cylinder engine and the design was led by Ferry Porsche’s eldest son, Ferdinand Porsche.
The Porsche 911 has since become the Porsche and spawned a series of redesigns that have since become ingrained in our car consciousness.
