Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, who had joined forces to sell Singer cars the previous year. Martin was a racer, who enjoyed burning around Aston Hill near Aston Clinton…can you see where we’re going with this?
The pair decided to make their own vehicles: the first of which was to be called, drum roll please, Aston Martin – having fitted a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini chassis with a four-cylinder engine.
As with all pre-war motor manufacturers however, WWI put a stop to production…along with a great deal of other things.
After the war, a string of financial problems lead to a series of different investors taking over the company. Until, in the 1950s, Aston Martin was controlled by The Tractor Group and the legendary DB series was born.
Since then, Aston Martin has blossomed – becoming the epitome of style and cool.
