Jaguar Land Rover has been recognised for its efforts in tackling climate change.
The manufacturer scooped an environment award at the West Midlands Business in the community (BITC) awards in Birmingham earlier this month.
The accolade, called the Climate Change Big Tick, is given to businesses that take positive steps towards creating a sustainable future.
Jaguar Land Rover was presented with the award in recognition of its carbon reduction strategy. IT focuses on reducing emissions from vehicles and across its operations, and also encompasses carbon offsetting.
Jaguar Land Rover executive director Mike Wright said the manufacturer is delighted to receive the award.
“Our focus on sustainability has achieved significant results across the business,” he commented.
“Our manufacturing emissions have been reduced by 25% since 2007 while investment of at least £1.5 billion per year has delivered new technologies to reduce tailpipe emissions.
“We are the only automotive company to offset one hundred per cent of CO2 from production and our CO2 offset programme has offset a total of 5.2 tonnes to date.”
The award recognises the contributions of all employees towards achieving the challenging sustainability targets and will motivate the company to make further improvements in the coming years, he added.
Stephen Howard, chief executive of Business in the Community, congratulated Jaguar Land Rover and said the award showcases how businesses can be a force for good and bring benefits to their business and the community.
“Our Awards for Excellence are all about celebrating responsible business and JLR has demonstrated that they can have a positive impact on society and people without losing focus on their business,” he explained.
