Mercedes-Benz has revealed the prices for its new SL-Class Roadster.
Anyone looking to buy a Mercedes can get their hands on the new model from £72,495 on-the-road for the SL 350.
The sixth generation of the iconic roadster also includes an SL 500 variant at £83,445. Both models will hit the UK next month with the SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG to follow later this year.
Built almost entirely of aluminium, the new Mercedes is lighter, leaner, sportier and more efficient. The range is powered by Mercedes-Benz BlueDIRECT direct-injection engines, which have better fuel efficiency and lower emissions by up to 30% over the previous model, and deliver even more performance.
Keeping the classic sports-roadster look thanks to a long bonnet and set-back cabin, the new Mercedes is also longer, wider and lower than before. Weight has been reduced by up to 140kg thanks to the aluminium construction and the only pieces not of this metal are the magnesium sections of the floor and high-strength steel in the front windscreen pillars. The body is stiffer too, with a chassis that features semi-active adjustable damping or optional Active Body Control, and Direct Steer speed-sensitive power steering for quick responses.
The new SL-Class is also incredibly safe thanks to the standard protection features such as PRE-SAFE, NECK-PRO, ATTENTION ASSIST and ADAPTIVE BRAKE.
The SL 350 has a 3.5-litre V6 engine for sharp performance and can reach 62mph in 5.9 seconds. It can do 37.7mpg and has carbon dioxide emissions of 176g/km. The SL 500 runs on a V8 engine and can get to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds, with 30.7mpg in terms of efficiency and emissions of 214g/km.
Even water is saved in the new Mercedes SL-Class thanks to the MAGIC VISION CONTROL intelligent wash/wipe system which is fitted as standard. It applies the ideal amount of washer fluid just in front of the wiper blades to ensure visibility is not impaired and occupants do not get wet when the top is down.
