The new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider is set to have a folding hard-top roof, according to details unveiled by TeamSpeed.com.
More information has been uncovered on the highly anticipated new prestige car, which will be fully unveiled later this year, with production and deliveries to begin early next year.
The recent reports reveals that as well as the folding hard top, the new two-seat Ferrari will not have a transparent engine cover – the first time in more than a decade for the Spider range.
Power will remain the same as in the 458 Italia coupe.
According to the site, Ferrari held a showing of the 458 Spider Italia to a select group of people at its Maranello headquarters last week. Two cars were on display – one in rosso/tan and another in nero/tan.
No pricing details have been revealed as yet, but continental European customers can get their hands on the new Ferrari in the first quarter of 2012, with the model available in the UK in the third quarter. US customers will have to wait until later on to get their hands on the Italia Spider 458.
The 458 Italia was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 and has since won several industry awards, including Fifth Gear’s Fast Car of the Year, The Daily Telegraph’s Car of the Year and Car magazine’s Performance Car of the Year.
The eight-cylinder two-seater berlinetta has a mid-rear mounted engine and was designed to satisfy the most passionate Ferrari drivers.
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher contributed to the car’s development, and helped ensure it maintained a strong emotional experience for drivers.
With a 4,499 cc V8 engine taking it to 62 mph in under 3.4 seconds, the 458 Italia is a true performance car, but is also mindful of the environment, producing only 307 g/km of Co2 and consuming just 13.3 litres of fuel per 100 km.
